Not many people know the role of Nurse Practitioners.
So what are Nurse Practitioners and what can they do differently than a RN or RPN?
• Nurse Practitioners are registered nurses (RN) who have gone a received further education to enhance their skills and knowledge and they often possess a Master's Degree. So more simply, they play a similar role to what traditional family doctors do.
• They are able to perform a thorough assessment that can allow them to Diagnose medical conditions for example Diabetes.
• They can order lab work, ultrasounds and other tests as well as interpret these tests to help them with formulating their diagnoses.
• They can prescribe medications for acute and chronic conditions such as strep throat or weight loss treatments.
• They can perform common medical procedures such as cyst removal, nerve blocks and basic skin biopsies.
